Synthetic World
02.06.05 (6:16 pm) [edit]

I changed the music bed. Synthetic World was written and recorded in 1970 by Jerry Williams, aka Swamp Dogg. He's no relation to Snoop, but I'm convinced that Snoop "borrowed" his name. The version playing was the lead single on Generations I: A Punk Look at Human Rights (ARK 21), a 1997 benefit album for ex-Amnesty International head Jack Healey's Human Rights Action Center. The song, recorded with the British rock band Moon Dogg, appears alongside tracks by Joe Strummer, Pansy Division, John Doe, and Exene Cervernkova.
Another version appears on the soundtrack of the 1998 motion picture Burn, Hollywood, Burn, a grossly underrated satire.
After thirty-four years, Swamp Dogg's lament is still relevant.
Rock on!

I spend a great deal of time in front of my PC. Whether it's here or in the Bathouse, people often ask me about the hardware and software I use to accomplish some of the tasks that consume my leisure hours. I purchased my current PC when viral infections began to gnaw away at my trusty Compaq, little by little turning it into nothing more than a paperweight. Naturally, my first after-market purchase was an effective anti-virus program and subscription to ensure no more critical files were ever lost again.
Adding components and installing a variety of creative software, I've turned my off the shelf system into a powerhouse of productivity and spend endless hours creating and editing graphic, audio, and video files. Prior to purchasing any hardware or software I did extensive research on manufacturer's sites and more importantly, a variety of user's forums, to be sure that each addition would meet my needs. From drives, scanners, and input devices to vital programs such as Norton Internet Security, Jasc Paint Shop Pro, The Logo Creator, Nero, SureThing, FLAC Frontend, Azureus BitTorrent Client, Ace FTP, and many others, each was specifically chosen based upon an extensive comparison of information and user opinions of these and competing products.
Of course, your needs may be different and you should always purchase and upgrade to suit your own needs.
If you didn't realize it already, the graphic at the top of this post is actually a link, scroll back up there or click here to view and read about my system. The listing includes direct links to the relevant product's website so you can get more information on any component or program that interests you.
Rock on!

PS: The Bathouse isn't as unsavory as it may sound; it is a Hip-based discussion forum named after the Hip's recording studio in Bath, Ontario Canada.

For Caring; For Love; For Memory...part II

I've added a music bed. Human Drama's This Tangled Web, as it appears on the live album 14,384 Days Later, recorded in 1996. MP3 conversion uses a "lossy compression" so the actual sound is much thicker than you're hearing now.
You can stop & restart the player in the left margin.

For Caring; For Love; For Memory...
01.30.05 (2:46 am) [edit]

On Thursday January 27, 2005 at 1650 Club in Hollywood, California, Human Drama played their final concert. Human Drama has evolved over the years and a variety of amazing musicians have floated in and out of the lineup but the passion, power, honesty, artistry and truth of the music has remained constant.
Not to be confused with the Poet, Johnny Indovina is the consummate Storyteller, weaving a tapestry of emotion, love, loss, recovery and hope that each of us have felt at one point or another. Johnny is an artist in the truest sense of the word and while his fan base is undeniably loyal, he never received recognition on the scale he deserves.
By his own admission, accolades were never his goal; he would prefer that his music be sold in bookstores and independent shops rather than be lumped in with the mass-marketed, style over substance records that have saturated the marketplace for as long as I can remember. Even so, it's highly disturbing that sound-alike-named-alike posers have gained incredible wealth while Johnny has quietly poured his heart and soul into a dying art.
I was fortunate enough to see a scaled down version of Human Drama's live show in April of 1998 at small venue in Detroit. It was the same night of the Detroit Music Awards so attendance was dismal; everyone and anyone who is, has been, or wanted to be big in the Detroit music scene was at the DMAs with a sellout SRO crowd. Even so, with no more than fifty people in the audience, Johnny and the boys played as if they were performing for a sold-out arena. With several hundred concerts under my belt, it was the most powerful and moving performance I've ever seen.
Still, not being able to attend the absolute final performance of this great artist is a bitter pill to swallow. It's the end of an era and it's an end I wasn't prepared to face, even though I knew it was inevitable. Death is never easy, but it is inevitable.
Human Drama is no more, but Johnny Indovina, C.J.Eirikson, Mark Balderas, Jamii Smadzinski, Michael Ciravola, Michael Mallory, Renelle LaPlante and the numerous musicians who comprised the ensemble will continue to live as some of the most monumental artists in modern music.
For caring, for love, for memory; I thank you Johnny, for sharing your life of quiet desperation with all of us.
Rock on, my friend.

Greetings fellow Netizens! I've ventured outside my comfort zone and into unexplored territory. I'm not quite sure at the moment where this blog will lead but you can rest assured it will have every irrelevance. For those of you who understand, no explanation is necessary; for those who don't, well, in time you may figure it out. Suffice it to say that I 've drawn the title of my blog from among the works of the quintessential writer, performer, philosopher, artist, of the modern age; the One True Poet.
Musings, rants, observations, social commentary, random thoughts; at some point they'll all make an appearance. Logical topics will include music (which is in a sorry state and continues to spiral downward), media, technology, current events and a few acerbic commentaries about local, national, and global issues and the absolute idiots that drive them.
Rock on, world!
